Updates to Gambling and games policy (March 2024)

On 5 April 2024, the Google Ads Gambling and games policy Romania country-specifics will be updated to reflect updated gambling regulations and certification requirements:

Google allows ads promoting the following online gambling as long as the advertiser is registered with the Romanian National Office for Gambling (the 'ONJN') and submits valid licensing:

  • Casino games
  • Fixed-odds betting (including sports betting)
  • Bingo
  • Lotteries
  • Mutual betting
  • Counterparty betting
  •  Raffle-type betting
  • Sites that provide information about or a comparison of other gambling services, but do not themselves provide gambling activities that require a licence (the so-called aggregators, . They may provide links to gambling services not operated or controlled by the aggregator, but which are provided by licensed gambling operators

Google allows ads promoting the following online gambling as long as the advertiser is registered with the Romanian National Office for Gambling (the 'ONJN') and submits valid licensing:

  • Gambling-related promotional products such as gambling-related vouchers, bonus codes, etc.
  • Gambling-related tutoring and educational materials, such as books and eBooks
  • Gambling-related information such as tips, odds and handicapping
Advertisers must also be certified with Google. See how to apply.

Operators currently certified with Google who were previously certified without an ONJN licence, must apply for certification with the required ONJN documentation.

Starting 5 April 2024  any advertiser operating without a Romanian licence or equivalent approvals will have their gambling certificate revoked and will not be eligible to serve gambling ads in Romania. 

New advertisers or those who did not provide updated paperwork in a timely manner and had their gambling certificate revoked must apply for certification.

The Gambling and games policy page will be updated when the policy goes into effect on 5 April 2024.
