About Advanced URL settings

After you've set up Auto ads for your site, you can then use Advanced URL settings to show different ad settings on different parts of your site. For example, you might want to show only In-article ads on your longer content pages. You do this by creating URL groups. URL groups override your global settings and allow you to choose different settings for specific URLs. You can create a maximum of 500 URL groups.

Selecting the right URLs for your URL group

It's important that you select the correct URLs when creating URL groups. For example, let's say you want to show different ad formats on the news section of your site ( Rather than creating a separate URL group for each of your news pages, you'd create one URL group for your entire subdomain.

You can create URL groups for:

  • domains, e.g.,
  • subdomains, e.g.,
  • sections, e.g.,
  • pages, e.g.,

Your URLs might be publicly visible

Keep in mind that the URLs you select for a URL group are sometimes sent to the user's web browser to ensure that Auto ads show on the correct pages. Users inspecting data in their browsers may be able to see these URLs and the settings you've applied to them.

Overriding URL groups

URL groups can override each other. The rule is: a URL group with a more specific URL (e.g., a subdomain) will always override a URL group with a less specific URL (e.g., a domain). For example, let's say you create two URL groups and select the URLs for one and for the other.
