Opt out of new ad types

We understand that it's important for you to have control over the types of ads that serve on your pages, so we offer a number of opt outs for new ad types.

Keep in mind that when you opt out, it affects all relevant ad units and Auto ads, which may have an impact on your earnings.

Available opt outs

We offer the following opt outs:

Personalized ads

  • User-based ads: Choose whether or not you want to display ads that are based on users’ interests, demographics, and Google Account information. Note that you can't opt out of remarketing.

Display ads

  • Similar-sized display ads: Choose whether or not you want to show similar-sized but higher performing display ads in your ad units. To help increase competition for some ad sizes, we will occasionally modify similar-sized display ads to fit within the ad units. When this happens, the modified ad is served neatly centered at the top of the ad unit. For example, you might see a 468x60 ad in a 320x50 ad unit.

  • Animated display ads: Choose whether or not you want to show non-static display (e.g., image) ads, such as ad creatives created using Adobe Flash or animated GIF formats.

  • VPAID ads: Choose whether or not you want to display interactive VPAID video ads. VPAID is a standard that allows advertisers to create interactive video ads, e.g., overlays, galleries, etc. Note that this opt out does not apply to non-VPAID interactive video ads, e.g., TrueView video ads.

How to opt out

To opt out of any of the ad types:​

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Blocking controls and then All sites and then Ad serving.
  3. Use the controls on the page to block the ad types that you don’t want to appear on your pages.
Note: These opt outs are only available for AdSense for content ads.
