Can I alter the AdSense for search code?

We understand that it's important for you to have control over the layout of your webpages, so we currently offer a number of display options for AdSense for search. In general, as specified in our program policies, we don't permit modifications to the AdSense code. However, we do allow specific modifications that allow our AdSense for search code to comply with W3C HTML and XHTML standards.

Under the 'My ads' tab, when generating your AdSense for search code, you may choose to:

  • Open search results in a new window
  • Customize the length and layout of the Google search box
  • Select colors or styles for your AdSense for search results

Again, please note that modification of the AdSense for search code is a violation of the AdSense program policies. Publishers may not:

  • Pre-populate the AdSense for search box
  • Create links to Google AdSense for search results
  • Frame Google AdSense for search results
  • Remove or alter the Google logo

Can I use other internet search services with AdSense for search?

Publishers are permitted to add other internet search services to sites displaying the AdSense for search box. However, the search boxes displayed from other internet search services may not mimic the appearance of the Google search box. In addition, publishers using the optional SiteSearch feature may also use alternate products to search the contents of their site.

Can I search using my own search engine?

We strongly recommend that you do not use the search engine on your site to perform searches yourself. Besides increasing the risk of accidental clicks on your own ads, searching through your own search engine will result in reports that don't properly reflect the traffic to your pages.

We suggest that you use Google.com for your searches, or, if you're a Windows user running Internet Explorer or Firefox, we recommend the Google Toolbar, which allows you to search from within your browser, and includes shortcuts to a number of Google services.

Can I display Google ads and an AdSense for search box on the same page?

Yes. You can place an AdSense for search box on any page that meets our program policies, even if you're already showing Google ads on that page. Searches will lead to a search results page that is also monetized with Google ads.

Can I show ads on AdSense for search results pages in my own site?

We ask that you don't place any additional ads, including text, image or video ad units, on pages with framed search results. However, you're welcome to place a link unit or an AdSense for search box on the page.

Can I display ads on non-Google search results pages?

If you have non-Google search results pages on your site, you're welcome to place Google ads on them.
