GameSnacks content best practices

This article provides general content considerations for games on the GameSnacks platform. Keep the following guidelines in mind when you create games for use on GameSnacks.

Note: This is not legal advice and does not address all content issues. Please work with your own legal counsel to address any questions you have and to ensure your game meets all legal clearance requirements.

General content considerations

  • Game name, icon, and logo: Make sure your game name, icon or thumbnail, and logo aren't too similar to someone else's.
  • Brands, logos, and product names: Avoid using third-party brands, logos, or product names (or anything that looks or sounds like them) unless you have permission from the owner to do so, or your legal counsel has approved it.
  • Athlete names, team names, and team logos: If your game is a sports or a racing game, make sure you have the proper permissions to use the names and logos associated with any athletes or teams that appear in your game.
  • Third-party organization: Avoid using the name of any third-party organizations, including sporting, racing, or esports organizations without permission.
  • Distinctive product design: Don't feature the distinctive design of well-recognizable products, including certain cars and firearms, unless you have permission from the owner, or your legal counsel has approved the use.
  • Famous landmarks, or buildings: If your game features any real buildings, event venues, or famous landmarks, check with your legal counsel to see if you need permission to use those in your game.
  • Music: Don't use music or sound effects unless you have all necessary rights to use them in your game. This means you should avoid singing, humming, playing music, reciting or showing lyrics or hearing it in the background (in a store, on a radio/tv, in a video clip) unless you have permission.
  • Photos, images, and videos: All third-party content (photos, videos, etc.) must be licensed for use in the games.
  • People: Any recognizable person (or their name/likeness) in your game needs to sign a written release. Celebrities have even greater protections so you need permission.

Genre-specific considerations

If your game fits into one of the following genres, make sure that you have the required permission to use the elements specific to each genre:

  • Driving simulator and racing games: Names, brands, logos, and designs of vehicles, related racing products, racing teams, individual racers, racing organizations, famous buildings, landmarks, and actual race tracks
  • Life and building simulator games: Names, brands, and logos of actual products, including clothing and accessories, famous buildings and landmarks, celebrities or public persons
  • Sport games: Names, brands, logos, and designs of real products, sports teams, individual players, sporting events, sports organizations, famous buildings, landmarks, and actual sports venues
  • Shooting games: Names, brands, logos, and designs of actual firearms, ammunition, and related equipment
  • Puzzle games: Don't use photos or images unless you've obtained all necessary rights to use them in your game. Be mindful of showing photos or videos with uncleared people, brands or logos in them.
