Use metrics to understand engagement

Keeping track of how your messages are performing can help you understand your site visitors better, as well as how they interact with your sites.

Use the metrics card at the top of the Messages page for certain message types to keep track of your rate at which your messages are being displayed to site visitors and the choices they select. Download and review the related .CSV file for a more dynamic and in-depth view of the data.

Find the metrics card

Complete the following steps to view the metrics card for a specific privacy regulation:

  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Privacy & messaging.
  3. Click one of the message type cards on the Privacy & messaging page. The metrics card is located at the top of the Messages page for each message type.

Displayed metrics

The following tables describe the metrics displayed in the metrics card for each message type.

GDPR messages

Metric Description
Messages shown Number of times a GDPR message was shown to site visitors. Aggregated over the last 30 days.
EEA & UK traffic rate

Rate of traffic from the EEA (European Economic Area) and the UK. This represents the portion of your site's traffic that was eligible for GDPR messaging. Aggregated over the last 30 days.

(Consent eligible pageviews) / (Total pageviews) 

Consent rate

Rate at which GDPR messages were displayed and site visitors chose to consent to personalized ads. Aggregated over the last 30 days.

(Visitors who chose to consent) / (Consent eligible pageviews) 

CPRA messages

Metric Description
Messages shown Number of times a CPRA message was shown to site visitors. Aggregated over the last 30 days.
California traffic rate

Rate of traffic from the applicable US states. This represents the portion of your site's traffic that was eligible for CPRA messaging. Aggregated over the last 30 days from sites in AdSense and Ad Manager. 

Opt-out rate Rate at which site visitors chose the opt out option on a CPRA message. Aggregated over the last 30 days from sites in AdSense and Ad Manager.

Ad blocking recovery messages

Metric Description
Messages shown Number of times an ad blocking recovery message was shown to site visitors. Aggregated over the last 30 days. Includes only messages shown on Desktop. 
Extension rate The rate of pageviews where users had ad blocker extensions installed. Aggregated from sites in AdSense and Ad Manager. Includes only messages shown on Desktop. 
Allow-ads conversion rate The conversion rate (based on browser cookies) of site visitors who saw the ad blocking recovery message and then chose to allow ads. Site visitors may have seen the ad revenue recovery message prior to or during the report time frame. Aggregated over the last 30 days from sites in AdSense and Ad Manager. Includes only messages shown on Desktop. 

CSV report 

In addition to the metrics card, this information is also available in a .CSV file that contains additional metrics. To download the .CSV file, click Download in the metrics card. 

 
Metric Description
Operating system group The device operating system (Android or iOS).
Date The date on which the message was displayed.
Message name/ID The name of the message.
Domain name The site domain associated with the message.
