Mediation

Manage waterfall ad source credentials and optimisation

You can manage the credentials for all of the waterfall ad sources that you're using for mediation from the waterfall ad sources table. To get to the table, click Mediation in the sidebar. Then, click the Ad sources tab.

See the Network credentials column to review and make changes to your ad source credentials.

Example of waterfall ad sources table in Ad Mob.

The waterfall ad sources table also includes information about how many mediation groups are associated with each ad source, which ad sources support optimisation and eCPM retrieval for reporting purposes and the optimisation status of the ad sources.

When you create a mediation group and add an ad source, the source is also added to this table. Additionally, you can directly add an ad source to the table by clicking Add ad source credentials. If you add an ad source's credentials to the table, you won't have to add them later to use the ad source in a mediation group.

Whether you add an ad source's credentials on the ad sources table or during mediation group creation, you should only have to add them once for each ad source. If the credentials change, you can update them by clicking Edit in the Network credentials column of the ad sources table.

Optimisation status column

The Optimisation status column shows the status of communication between AdMob and each ad source. The table below shows the statuses and what they mean.

Status What it means
Not optimised. Optimisation isn't enabled for this ad source.
Optimisation not supported. The ad source doesn’t support optimisation, so there's no status to report.
Optimised. This ad source is optimised. The eCPM will be regularly updated based on historical data.
Incorrect credentials. Optimisation failed because there's a problem with the credentials that you entered for this ad source.

This ad source can still serve ads, but because the credentials are incorrect:

  • AdMob can’t collect reporting data from the ad source
  • The eCPM can’t be optimised

To fix the problem, verify and update the credentials in AdMob.

Optimisation in progress.

You’ve entered credentials for this source, but optimisation and eCPM updates for reporting haven’t started yet.

When optimisation is enabled and credentials are entered, there may be a delay while AdMob gathers data. Optimisation will begin automatically once AdMob has gathered enough data. This can take up to three days.

Missing mapping.

Some required mapping details are missing.

Enter the mapping details for each ad unit for third-party reporting and optimisation to begin. In most cases, these details will be available in your account with the ad source.

Not enough impressions.  Your ad unit doesn’t have enough impressions. Your ad unit must have a minimum of 100 impressions per day for three days out of the last 10 days in order for all of your ad units to be optimised.
Can't retrieve data.

AdMob can’t retrieve the data for this ad source. This could be due to:

  • Incorrectly mapped ad units. Check that your ad units exist in the third-party ad source and are allowed to serve ads.

Also check that the mapping details in the AdMob frontend match the mapping details in the third-party ad source.

  • SDK integration issues. Make sure that you’ve successfully integrated the Google Mobile Ads SDK for Android or iOS.

You can also use the Mediation Test Suite to test whether you have correctly configured your app and ad units to be able to display ads from third-party networks through mediation.

  • Permissions issues. Check that the credentials for your third-party ad source have permission to access reporting data. This is handled in your third-party ad source account.
Not able to optimise.  AdMob was not able to optimise this ad source.
No requests No requests were made to this instance of the ad source. This could be due to:
  • The mediation group priority is too low.
  • This ad source instance is ordered too low in the mediation waterfall.
Requests are likely to be filled by higher priority mediation groups and ad sources that are higher in the mediation waterfall.
