Manage legitimate interest settings

Choose how legitimate interest controls are displayed to visitors when they view your European regulations messages. You can decide whether to display the legitimate interest controls to visitors and if you want to turn the legitimate interest options on or off by default.

Your selections must adhere to the IAB policies document. 

Complete the following steps to adjust the legitimate control settings for your European regulations messages:

1. Sign in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.
2. Click Privacy & messaging.
3. Click European regulations.
4. Click Settings.
5. Adjust the “Legitimate interest controls” settings as needed.
   • Check the checkbox to display the legitimate interest controls in your European regulations messages. All options will be turned on by default unless the “Enable by default” checkbox is unchecked.
   • Uncheck the checkbox to remove the legitimate interest controls from your European regulations messages. A dialog will appear to confirm your choice.
     If the “Legitimate interest controls” checkbox is unchecked, all of your ad partners will be required to use consent as a legal basis for all purposes. Purposes relying only on legitimate interest will not be used for consent. This may result in significantly reduced ad revenue.
6. Adjust the “Turn on by default” setting as needed.
   • Check the checkbox if you want all of the options for legitimate interest to be turned on by default when a visitor views the message.
   • Uncheck the checkbox if you want all of the options for legitimate interest to be turned off by default when a visitor views the message. Visitors who click "Manage options" on the first page of the message will need to manually select the legitimate interest options for which they want to opt in. If the user decides to consent on the first page of the message, all legitimate interest options will be turned on automatically.
7. Click Save. All European regulations messages shown to first-time visitors will use the updated settings.
8. In the dialog that appears, click Re-prompt if you want to ask visitors who previously consented to make new selections based on the updated settings. If you choose not to re-prompt returning visitors, their previous selections will continue to be used.
