Declare child publisher apps (Beta)

Channel partners must classify all apps before they can be served ads, including their own and those of child publishers. This is only available if mobile app sub-syndication is available for the Ad Exchange account.

Note the following:
  • There may be a delay of up to 7 days before newly published apps are ready to be added as described below. Apps must be published on either the Apple App Store or the Google Play store.
  • It's a violation of Google policies to mis-classify any app on your Ad Exchange account. Only mark an app as Owned when you control all of the content and technology on that app. Only mark an app as Represented if you've registered the owner of that app as a child publisher and if a representative from that company has completed the child publisher registration form. Block any apps that you don’t own from serving ads via your Ad Exchange account when you don't have a declared business relationship with the app owner.

Get started

  1. Sign in to Google Ad Manager.
  2. Cick Admin and then Scaled partner management.
  3. Near the top of the page, click the Apps tab.
  4. Perform the task below that applies to your situation.

Register apps where ad serving has been attempted but disallowed because the app was not registered

  1. Click the Unclassified tab.
Apps are sorted by number of impressions. This helps you understand where you’re losing revenue because of unclassified apps.
  2. Select the checkboxes next to the apps to classify.
  3. Click Mark as and choose one of the following:
    • Blocked to move the apps to the Blocked tab so they no longer show up in the "Unclassified" tab AND no ads will be returned to those apps.
    • Owned to classify the apps as directly owned.
    • Represented to choose a child publisher to associate with the apps. You must have added the child publishers in advance, and you cannot add an app as “Represented” with a disapproved partner.

Add apps directly owned by the channel partner

  1. Click the Owned tab.
  2. Click Add owned apps.
  3. Enter apps separated by new lines.
Use this format: [App name], [App store ID], [iOS or Android]
    Example: my-app-name, 123456789, iOS
  4. Click Add.

Add apps being represented for child publishers

  1. Click the Represented tab.
  2. Click Add represented apps.
  3. Enter apps separated by new lines.
Use this format: [App name], [App store ID], [iOS or Android]
    Example: my-app-name, 123456789, iOS
  4. Select the associated partner from the dropdown.
  5. Click Add.

Navigation tips:

  • Use the Mark as drop-down under the Unclassified, Owned, or Blocked tabs to move your child publishers from one bucket to another. For example, from the Unclassified tab, select Blocked to move the apps to the Blocked tab.
  • Use the Delete option to discard owned, blocked or represented child publisher apps. If the publisher attempts to monetize a deleted app, the app will return to the Unclassified tab. The app would need to be re-registered.

Known issues

This beta version of declaring child publisher apps has the following known issues:

  • Marking an app as Blocked/Owned/Represented adds it to that tab, but it doesn’t remove the app from the Unclassified tab.
  • Reporting data shows all app traffic as "Unclassified."
  • In Ad Manager queries, there's no way to filter app data by the app classification status (Unclassified, Owned, Represented, or Blocked) or by child publisher.
