Blended families and family link accounts 0 Recommended Answers 4 Replies 145 Upvotes
Here are the constraints we have gathered when it comes to family groups.
1. You can only be a part of one family group.
2. There can only be 2 parents in one family group.
We have just gone through setting up family link for our daughter. Our daughter is part of a blended family, with divorced parents, where both parents are with new partners. Each one plays a role in raising our daughter.
There are 2 big problems I see here:
1. We should be able to set as many parents as necessary as parents. Requiring a maximum of 2 seems like a very antiquated rule.
2. When myself and my new partner now decide to have more children, those children will need to be in the same family group as my ex and possibly their new children - this seems ridiculous. You should be allowed to be apart of more than one family group in order to allow for more blended families.
In retrospect, perhaps we should have done our joint custody’s daughter under a new, joint email address for ourselves as parents - but now, we have also sort of shot ourselves in the foot because you can only change family groups once in a 12month period (which we have already done, because we made a mistake on the first family group we created)
If I am mistaken in any of my understanding, I would welcome any clarity you can provide. Otherwise, are there any ways to work around these issues? And will anything be done in the future to better support these types of families?
