I use Google Pay on my android phone. today I got an email saying "Google Wallet was granted access to your Google account."  I thought Google Wallet was kapoot and replaced with Google Pay  What does this message mean?  Why would this happen in the middle of the night and not prior to making a purchase?

I just recently received the same notification (within an hour or two ago) and it freaked me out. I revoked access and changed passwords to my account. Freaky

I also received this notification yesterday. I dont even have an android device. I went into my account and changed passwords and revoked access to Google Wallet only to receive the same email again a few hours later. Not sure why this is happening. Would love some answers so it doesn’t come across like this is some sort of security breach.

(Australia) Just Received email also to my G Suite account ...

Google Wallet was granted access to your linked Google account
If you did not grant access, you should check this activity and secure your account.

I have taken all necessary steps to secure my account

The same thing just happened to me 10 minutes ago (from Australia)

If someone knows what this means please let us know as it's very concerning that we received this email, the only thing I can think of is I recently added my Myki pass (transport card) to my google pay pass...

I've received the "Google Wallet was granted access to your Google account" notification message on my Android twice today as well.  It was from an unregongized device at an unknown location.  First time was around 8:25AM PDT and now just again at 5:35PM PDT.  I changed my password just this morning after the first message.  With this repeat message, I more inclined to believe it's some kind of bug, but would love to know what's going on.  Hopefully someone at Google responds.

I got the same notification this morning at 8:50am EDT.  Google Wallet now has access to my Google Account. I immediately changed my password AND activated 2 step authentication for log-in, so the fact that it happened again at 8:40pm EDT is concerning. I'm really at a loss given that it happened after I enabled 2 step authentication.  Anyone know what's going on?

Same happened to me. The scary thing is that the developer is marked as "unknown" and the same for device and location. It could be one of the google testers messing around but I would have imagined that the app was at least signed in that case (e.g. the developer was marked as being google).

Hi,

Google is investigating this incident (Google Wallet was granted access to your Google account).
The best we can advise you right now is to increase the security of your account:

Also uninstall any application not verified by Google from your devices and review your browser extensions:

As soon as we have more information about this incidence, this thread will be updated.

Thank you!

This happened to me twice in the last day as well.  Access to Google Wallet granted to unknown device at unknown location both times, and I had made no changes to account.  Changed password after first time, but happened again.  Deleted all payment info in my account until Google can tell us what the hell is going on...

Seems like we're all asking the same questions, but no answer is forthcoming. I don't use anything but a desktop computer, and I don't provide a mobile phone# even though facebook keeps asking me for it. Now with the Security alert, Google is also constantly asking for it. Anyone else in this situation?

Exact same thing. https://support.google.com/accounts/thread/3862651?msgid=3922996...

No precise searches results, except this support forum. I sent a link to the Forum to one of the better Tech Journalism web-sites in hopes that they can investigate further.

So far, radio silence from Alphabet et al.

Changed all passwords, then it happens again, 24 hours later....I'm a bit freaked out.

I have received two of these same alerts. The first one was on April 8th at 11:09 p.m. (EDT) and the second was on April 10th at 9:45 a.m. The alert said the connection was made from an unknown device at an unknown location. I changed the password to my account and checked which devices were associated with my account, but all of the devices were ones that I recognize and own. In case it helps, the second alert was received just as my desktop PC was finishing a reboot and Chrome was being reloaded while I was logged into the browser with the same account that I received an alert about.

Hola Gabriel Nabais.
Funciono por el momento eliminar las extensiones como dijiste, ya que cada ves que cerraba e iniciaba sesión se volvía agregar google wallet a las aplicaciones de de google con acceso a la cuenta.

Gracias

Got the same message yesterday (South Africa), also freaked out and changed my password, even though I use very strong passwords and have two-factor authentication enabled.

What made me more worried is that this was just after I did a fresh Ubuntu installation. I installed Chrome on the machine, logged into my Google account and also installed and set up Chrome Remote Desktop. Was concerned that something in that process compromised my account. But given all these other messages it does seem more likely to be a bug, though.

Another reason I find this confusing is that Google Wallet doesn't exist under that name anymore -- it's now Google Pay.
