"Couldn't find your google account"

I went to change my Facebook password and it sent a code to my Gmail account which I only used to establish the Facebook account. When I went to login to Gmail I received the message "Couldn't find your google account." I tried to create a new account with the same email address and it said "That Username is Taken."

Now I can't change my Facebook password or access it on any other devices because I can't access my Gmail account.

Any suggestions?

When you get the message "Couldn't find your Google account" that means either:  (1) you have the account name wrong, or (2) the account was deleted at some point and can no longer be recovered.

Account names are never re-used.  So if the account was closed/deleted you would get that it doesn't exist ("Couldn't find your Google account") AND can not be created (“That username is taken”).  See:  https://support.google.com/mail/answer/56256
