Will I lose Google Authenticator codes if I factory reset my Pixel7 Android 14?

I have two profiles on my Pixel7, one of them is my work profile. Today Jan-23-2024 I did a Google Play System update and my Pixe 7 started to have "not enough storage issues".

Pixel 7 became super sluggish and does not save camera images, unable to download work files...etc. I keep getting prompted with "not enough storage space".

In the storage manager I have gigs of free storage so it must be a bug.

Question: I want to factory reset my Pixel7 and my question is, will I lose my authenticator codes after a factory reset?

Thank you

Yes, you will.  I'd do at least a couple of the following to make sure you can restore the codes after you re-install the app.
  • Make sure the authenticator is synced to your Google account.  Then later, syncing to the same account should restore the codes.
  • Do an export of the codes, take a screen-shot, and save it someplace save (NOT on the device, obviously).
  • Install a different authenticator on another device and export the codes to it.  That will work as a backup, and you can export the codes back to your device later.

I did what you said and after factory reset my Pixel 7 and adding my personal and work profile on to it, I re-installed Google Authenticator and discovered that the Google Authenticator kept all my codes as they were backed up to my Google account.

For anyone who is planning to reset their phone and using Google Authenticator, Make sure you have the backup to Google-account option on Google-Authenticator app. You will see a green colored cloud icon indicating Authenticator is backed up to your google account.

But, it's always prudent to follow the instructions provided by @bkc56 above just in case.

Thank you
