How to delete old email address

Note that after it is deleted, it can no longer be reused for new sign up as Google does not recycle deleted email addresses. If there is a possibility that you might need it in future, you might want to leave it for few months before deleting it.

I tried the above link, to no avail, google gmail refuses point blank to allow me to delete my gmail account, even though I am said owner of account. It says there is unusual activity on the account, even though it is my trying desperately to delete the account.
It just has you going round in circles!!
Google you are a joke and a waste of time!!

Step 3: Delete your account
- Go to myaccount.google.com.
- At the left, click Data and personalization.
- Scroll to "Download, delete, or make a plan for your data."
- Click Delete a service or your account.
- Click Delete your account.
If you delete your account there is no way to recover your account, sorry.
