Not able to log into Google Account on iPhone

I can't log into Google Account on iPhone. When trying to add an account through settings (Settings->Password & Accounts ->Add Account -> Google), after filling in the email and password the phone goes to the next step where you choose what you want to sync it just goes back after 2-3 seconds. The photo added is the step where it fails.

I've tried on an iPhone XS Max with iOS 13.1.3, iPhone X with iOS 13.1.3. and on an iPhone 6s Plus with iOS 12.3.1. Which tells me it's not an iPhone problem, but rather an account/Google problem. I have tried to deactivate two-step verification, reset all settings on the phone, but no matter what I do I can't log in. Going into account.google.com I can see that the iPhone under units, I also get an email that there was a new login.

The mail used is an iCloud account that is linked to Google. The goal of this is to use Google Calendar.

Have you tried logging into Google using the default Safari browser on your device? (Not using private browsing mode). You may then get a message asking for you to give Google permissions on your device. 

What version of iOS are you using? Sometimes it seems when iOS upgrades it does not always appear that it carries forward permissions for Google, and these have to be given again. Also, it seems during upgrades there can be a problem with iOS asking for permissions to allow Google to access your device.

Yes, it works fine through the browser.

The iOS versions are already specified in the post above. I have tried with three different iPhones, none work.

I'm struggling to replicate this issue myself, on both versions of iOS. Have you tried opening any Google app and seeing if you can log in via that method?

I am having the same issue, account won't link, but everything is logged in a fine in safari. My google voice app will also not log in. 

I've checked all my settings in my account and everything looks normal. Updated my phone and all the apps. I'm struggling with what to do here?

OP did you every find a solution?

Matthew, are you using a VPN at all, as this can also be a factor and it is advised not to use a VPN when trying to connect your account.

I am encountering the same problem. the account stopped receiving emails so I deleted it and tried to re-add it but have been unsuccessful. I can access the email without any problem on laptop.

I followed the advice given by Ryan wherein I turned off my VPN before connecting my account and this solved the problem.
