Changing gmail email address when using old AOL email
I do not want the gmail email to be linked to my aol email.

Hi,
It appears you may have 'added' the Gmail Service to your Google Account. This did not create a separate account, or identity, with the newly created gmail service/address. This just 'added' the gmail address to the Google Account you were logged into, as it did not have a gmail address, and you were signing into Google with another email address.*
So, you now have one Google Account, with 2 associated email addresses, one of which is the newly created gmail address. There is no way to separate these into two different accounts. The Gmail address will also have become the 'primary' address for the account, so you may experience difficulties signing into Google services with your original email address.
The only 'fix' to this issue is to 'delete/disable' the gmail service on your account. This address will still always be associated with your account, so if you restart gmail services, this will be the address used. If you delete it, the address will be 'disabled' signing in with it will result in 'account not found', and mail sent to it will bounce back as undeliverable.
Unfortunately Google do not permit reusing gmail addresses, and will show the error 'username in use', or similar. So, even when deleted/disabled from your account, the address can not be used to create a new Google Account.

*If I have misunderstood your report, can you provide more details. Did you previously sign into Google using something other than an @gmail.com address?
