Reset password for account. Forgot it. Now im locked out of my account on everything but my phone?? 0 Recommended Answers 7 Replies 28 Upvotes

So my Facebook account had a compromise attempt made on it on the 14th of September so I decided to go overboard and reset passwords on all my important accounts. Including my main google account (this is an alternate account so i can make this post) so i reset the password and logged back into everything via my phone since i was at work at the time. And of course resetting a password like that then working the rest of my shift, I went and forgot the password i'd set. 

I figured i'd just reset it like I always have in the past via the 2 step verification. Which went well up until it asked me What month and year i'd made the account. Which of course i had no idea at all so I guessed and was met with a 3 day wait period on whether or not my account would be recovered. So I waited contently since i could still technically do everything off my phone instead of my computer, not a terribly big deal. 

But the main issue is when I got the verification complete email it told me, in layman's terms,: "Well you've logged in via your phone and have access now so we assume you've resolved the issue and don't need a password reset have a nice day." Which is where my problem is now. Do I have to log out of my account on my phone for Three to Five Business Days  Just so I can reset my password? 

I appreciate the security Google but I legitimately cannot go that long without having access to my gmail and other google account apps. 
Do I for real have to just let my account go dead for 3 days or more so your automated system can FINALLY let me reset my password? 

If that's the case what's the point of having two factor authentication if it's just going to immediately ignore it simply because you can't remember when you made the account? 

What sort of recovery question even is that?

I am a fair bit upset at the whole ordeal and honestly I'm not expecting much of a comprehensible or helpful reply but i'll shoot my shot anyways.

 There is no way to expedite this security delay;  from what you have posted, Google are already helping you.
 
Come back with the reply from Google, if you need more assistance.  Full reply (redact anything private) is required.
 
Before doing this, please wait five (5) business days after you received the last delay notification from Google.   Weekends (Saturday & Sunday), and US public holidays, are not "business days".
 
In the meanwhile, do not keep attempting to recover the account.  You will go to last on the queue, and may be blocked for spamming.  Continually trying will not help at all, and in fact can be detrimental.  You need to be patient.

Cheers for the reply, especially on the advice about not attempting to recover the account again.

I suppose I'll just wait as annoying as it is. Security is nice and all but man I've never had this much trouble with something basic as this. Suppose I'll see next week if it all works out.

That said, im still curious do I have to just not use my main gmail account at all for the next week or so?
Because that's what my problem is, is that the last account recovery that went through basically dead ended because the system figured if im on my phone (which i never had to type the password into other than the initial reset) then i've magically figured out the password and don't need a reset.

If it works on the phone no reason not to continue to use.
