The issue with "unrecognised device" is often prevalent after an account has been hacked. Sometimes after using a new location/device., or if the account has not been accessed for a long time.
First try the advice from one user here https://support.google.com/accounts/thread/42497354?msgid=42500806 which might be helpful. Or try as Google suggest - use a different way to sign in.
Otherwise you will need to exit all attempted access and recovery efforts; do not access or attempt to recover the account for one FULL week, (7 days, 168 hours), then try again. Any access to the account during this time will cause the clock to start ticking again, back to zero.
Without updated and accessible recovery email and/or 'phone number, then most likely the account can't be recovered. (if this applies to you.)
When you try again, after waiting the full seven days, try ONE TIME only. Read :-
- How to recover your Google Account or Gmail
- Tips to complete account recovery steps
- Gmail Account Recovery blog
Then use this page for attempt account recovery. Once only! Continued spamming attempts will see you being locked out of the recovery system, by Google.
If you are impatient, and do not wait the full week, the error will keep repeating. Then you are just wasting your time.
Google claim that no one else can access your Gmail account during this lockout.
If you have an associated YouTube account, and the hacker has transferred ownership, you will need to contact the YouTube support forum people, preferably AFTER you regain access to your account, if possible. Carefully note the following:-
- We cannot help in this forum with YouTube issues.
- This current forum will continue to help with the Account Recovery process, but not for YouTube issues.
- YouTube people cannot help with Gmail/Google account problems; this forum only please.
Friendly reminder. Account security and password protection is your responsibility; and it is not the job of Google to do this for you. Google provide secure systems at their end; you must do the same to your account. Security tips from Google. I am unable to log into my Gmail account from Canada. Retired, I live in India 6 months of the year and the other 6 months in Canada. I had set up a Gmail account in India under a cell phone number that is no longer active. I am UNABLE to reactivate it from here and therefore I am UNABLE to receive the verification SMS for the 6-digit code. THE PASSWORD IS NOT THE ISSUE.
Thanks
