Using Gmail

Here's how Gmail and Google Accounts are related.

If you use Gmail, you already have a Google Account, and you can access:

  • Free Google products, including Calendar, Google Groups, Picasa, Search History, and more.
  • AdWords and Google Checkout.

Just enter your Gmail username (everything that appears before '') and password when you want to sign in to any of the products mentioned above.

If you don't use Gmail, you can sign up for Gmail for free. Just visit the Gmail homepage and click the Sign up for Gmail link under the sign-in box.

If you already have a Google Account, you can add Gmail to your current account, or create a separate account. If you'd like to add Gmail to your current Google Account, be sure to click the sign in here link. New Google Accounts come with Gmail, so you should already have a Gmail address if you've created your account recently.

When you add Gmail, your Gmail address will become the primary username on your account. It will be what others see when you share information, such as documents or photos, from your Google Account. Your original email address will become the recovery address on your account.
