Recovering a deleted username

If you haven't deleted your entire Google Account, you might be able to use your Gmail username again. Here’s how:

  1. Sign in to My Account using the email address currently associated with your Google Account.
  2. While still signed in to your Google Account, visit the Gmail sign-up page. Your old Gmail username will show up in the username field
  3. Complete the form, enter your existing Google Account password, and choose Continue.

After you complete this process, you should be able to use Gmail again to send and receive emails.

Common problems recovering usernames

Forgot username: If you deleted Gmail from your account, but didn't delete your account, it's likely that you can still sign in with the email you used before as an alternate address. That's now your primary username.

Can’t sign in: If you're not able to sign in with your primary username, you might have deleted your account. In this case, you won't be able to recover your Gmail username, but you might be able to recover your account.
