How Password Alert works

Once you’ve turned Password Alert on, you’ll get an alert any time your Google Account password is used to sign in to a non-Google site.

You can either ignore the alert or take action. For example, you can change your password if you think someone else has your account information.

Keep in mind that Password Alert doesn’t permanently store your password or keystrokes, or send either to anyone.

When can you use your Google Account password?

You can still use your Google Account password to sign-in to Google-related apps and services like Gmail, YouTube, Chrome, and Play. Using the same password on a non-Google site will trigger Password Alert.

If you use the same password for all your accounts, we recommend changing your Google Account password. Otherwise, if one of your accounts is compromised, they could all be compromised.
