Account merge and data move options
Important notice: If you move data into your Google Apps account, your administrator will have access to any data you migrate into or associate with that account, so please read the Google Apps Important Privacy Notice for more information. We suggest that you do not transfer information into the administrator-controlled account if you do not want your administrator to have access to or have control of this data.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to combine two accounts or to merge data.
Tool for moving data
A data moving tool is available for certain services if you’d like to transfer your data to your Google Apps account. However, the tool only is available for transferring data out of conflicting accounts. Currently, you can only use the data moving tool for these products:
- Webmaster Tools
- DoubleClick for Publishers
For products that cannot be moved through this tool, you will have to move your data manually.
There are two ways to access the data moving tool. These options might not be available to you, depending on the settings your domain administrator has chosen:
- You can initiate the process and access the tool by selecting the option to transfer your data into another account when you sign in to your conflicting account.
- You can transfer your data out of your conflicting account even after you’ve already chosen a new sign in name by going to Google Dashboard. If you didn’t have a conflicting account, you’ll need to move your data manually.
Moving your data manually
If products are not supported in the data migration tool or you don’t have a conflicting account, you can transfer your data manually for each product.
Products that don't support data moving
For products that don’t allow you to transfer data from one account to another, you can continue to use the products with your existing account. If your data was stored in a conflicting account, you'll need to re-associate the data in the account to a different account name. The first time you sign in to your conflicting account after the transition, you will see a An update to your account is required page that gives you options to rename your account.
Using your account after the transition
If you sign in to the same service with your Google Apps account after the transition, any new data you create is stored in your Google Apps account. So, to avoid having your information stored in two separate accounts, we recommend choosing one account to use for each service. If you are trying to use a product that can't transfer data, you can try to use multiple accounts at once.
Before you move your data
There are some important implications to understand before you move your data into another account:
- Data that is moved into a Google Apps account is managed by the administrator of the account.
- If you choose to move data into a Google Apps account, your domain administrator may choose to turn off the product for your entire domain, even after you have created, stored, or moved product data into the account. If this happens, you may lose access to the data that you store in the domain-managed account.
- Data will be moved by the data moving tool, not duplicated.
To ensure that you retain access to your personal data, only move data into an organizational account if it is related to the business, school, or organization you are associated with. You can always store your personal data in a personal Google Account.
