Change BrailleBack settings

To review or change BrailleBack settings, navigate to Settings > Accessibility > BrailleBack > Settings.

BrailleBack has three categories of settings: Device, Braille, and Miscellaneous.

Device settings

Setting

Description

Status Displays the paired device status. Tap this option to connect to an already paired device with a display. If the connection is successful, your device will be ready for use. Note: Pairing is a one-time action, while connecting happens each time the Android device is turned on or when the screen is turned on.

Braille settings

Setting

Description

Braille type Choose Literary braille or Computer braille.
Literary braille table Set the correct language and the contracted (grade 2) or uncontracted (grade 1) braille grade.
Computer braille table Set the language for 8 dot computer braille and text input.

Miscellaneous settings

Select Developer options to set preferences for app developer testing.

Setting

Description

Log output level Sets the amount of output that BrailleBack generates in the Android debug log.
Show braille output on screen Displays the braille display content in a small window on top of other windows on the screen. You can use this feature to test braille support even without a hardware braille display.
Launch tutorial This option is displayed if the braille output is shown on screen.
