What’s new with TalkBack 17.0

With TalkBack 17.0, you can:

  • Customize braille display commands.
  • Get more accurate image descriptions with Gemini.
  • Have better support for physical keyboards.
  • Get more logical announcements for dynamic web pages.

Use improved dynamic web pages

When you browse dynamic websites in TalkBack, live updates work better.

  • Announcements: To ensure you don’t miss important information, announcements now occur in a more logical order.
  • Critical alerts: As you browse, important updates interrupt you, while less urgent updates don’t.

Customize braille display commands

You can now customize braille display commands.

  1. Open the TalkBack menu.
    • On devices that support multi-finger gestures (Android 10 and up): Three-finger tap.
      • Or, in one motion, swipe down then right.
    • On devices without multi-finger support: In one motion, swipe down then right.
  2. Select TalkBack settings and then Braille display and then Braille display commands.

Tip: When you change reading control settings through a braille display, TalkBack provides braille-specific hints.

Use enhanced AI with Gemini 2.5 Flash

With the Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite model, TalkBack now provides a higher quality experience for image and screen descriptions. For images and apps, this update helps you get more accurate and detailed information.

Get more from your physical keyboard

With TalkBack 17.0, you can get more guidance and improved typing support for physical keyboards.

  • Tailored hints: You can get keyboard-specific hints when you use a physical keyboard and touch hints when you use the screen.
  • Seamless navigation: When you switch from touch to a physical keyboard, your focus starts exactly where you left off.
