Reduce delay

Important: Decreasing the announcement delay can make it more difficult to perform certain gestures like double-tap.

You can now reduce TalkBack announcement delay for touch exploration and typing.

To find the settings:

  1. To open the TalkBack menu, three-finger tap the screen.
  2. Double-tap TalkBack settings.
  3. Tap Advanced settings and then Reduce delay.
  4. You can change the following settings:
    • Reset all delay settings: This resets all delay settings to default.
    • Focus delay: This allows you to set the focus delay.
    • Single-tap to activate: This allows you to tap once rather than a double tap. The shorter focus delay means TalkBack announcements are made faster after you touch the screen.
    • Typing focus delay: Shorter typing focus delay means TalkBack announcements are made faster after you touch the keyboard.
    • Typing preference: You can select:
      • Hold finger to select any key, then double-tap
      • Hold finger to select letter key, then lift. Double-tap for other keys.
      • Hold finger to select any key, then lift
        • For the lowest delay when typing, select this setting. This automatically changes the typing focus delay to 0.15 seconds.
    • Touch and hold delay when typing

Tip: If this is your first time to change the typing focus delay, this adds to the reading control.
