Add notes with your voice

Tips

Remember something important when it’s not convenient to type, maybe when you’re walking or multitasking? Use Google Keep on your phone or tablet to record your thoughts. Any note you create by recording a voice note includes an audio recording and a text transcript.

Note: You can only create voice notes on mobile devices, but you can view, edit, and delete them on any device.

Create a new voice note" "

Mobile devices only

  1. Open the Keep app and at the bottom, tap Speak " " .
  2. When the microphone appears, start talking.
  3. When you’re finished, stop speaking and the recording stops. You’ll see what you said in the note text.
  4. (Optional) Review and edit the voice note:
    • To listen to the recording, tap Play Play.
    • To edit the text, tap it.
    • To add a title, enter one in the Title field.
  5. Tap Back Back to save the note and go to the Notes page.

Add a voice note to an existing note " "

Android devices only

  1. Open the Keep app and tap the note you want to add a voice note to.
  2. At the bottom, tap Add " "and then Recording " ".
  3. When the microphone appears, start talking. When you’re finished, stop speaking and the recording stops. You’ll see what you said in the note text.
  4. (Optional) To listen to the recording, tap Play Play.
  5. (Optional) To edit the text, tap it. 
  6. Tap Back Back to save the note and go to the Notes page.

Delete a recording (not the text) from a note" "

  1. Open the Keep app and tap the note that has the voice note.
  2. Next to the recording, click or tap Delete Cancel.
  3. Click Delete to confirm.
