Space rows and columns evenly in tables and spreadsheets



As you edit tables in Google Docs or Slides, the spacing of rows and columns might become uneven. You can resize table rows and columns so that each one uses the same amount of space.

You can also evenly space all spreadsheet rows and columns in Google Sheets.

Note: Use these instructions for Docs, Slides, and Sheets on your computer. If you're using a mobile device, go to Add and edit tables or Edit & format a spreadsheet.


Evenly space table rows and columns in Docs and Slides

  1. On your computer, open your Google Docs or Slides file.
  2. Place your cursor in the table whose rows or columns you want change.
  3. Click Formatand thenTableand thenDistribute rows or Distribute columns.

Evenly space all rows and columns in Sheets

  1. On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
  2. In the top-left corner of your sheet, click the button to select all cells.

  3. To resize all rows:
    1. Point to a row border on the numbered row bar. A vertical arrow appears.
    2. To change the height of all rows, drag the row border in the row bar.
  4. To resize all columns:
    1. Point to a column border on the column heading bar. A horizontal arrow appears.
    2. To change the width of all columns, drag the column border in the heading bar.
