Tips

If you're changing roles or getting additional help running a Google Group or Google+ community, you can transfer or share ownership. You can also share responsibility for a group with multiple managers.

Note: If you're sharing ownership, the new owner must be a member of the community for at least 2 weeks.

Share ownership of a group with a member

Using new Groups (beta)
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. In the left panel, click Members.
  5. Point to a member, then in the Role column, select the Owner role.
Using classic Groups
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. Open your group and at the top, click Manage.
  5. Check the box next to the person you want to make an owner and click Actionsand thenAdd to roleand thenOwner.

Using new Groups (beta)
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. In the left panel, click Members.
  5. Check the box next to the member or members whose settings you want to change.
  6. Above the list on the right, click Change role Label.
  7. Select the Manager role.
Using classic Groups
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. In your group, click Manage.
  5. Select the people you want to make managers.
  6. Select Actions and thenAdd to roleand thenManager.

 Remove yourself as owner of a group

Using new Groups (beta)
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. In the left panel, click Members.
  5. Assign someone else to be the group owner. Point to a member, then in the Role column, select the Owner role.
  6. Point to your name, then select a different role.
Using classic Groups
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. Assign someone else to be the group owner. See Share ownership of a group, above.
  5. Open the group and at the top, click Manage.
  6. Check the box next to your name and click Actionsand thenRemove from roleand thenOwner.

Share ownership of a community

  1. Open Google+.
  2. In the community, click More Moreand thenManage members.
  3. Next to the person you want to make an owner, click More More and choose an option.
  4. If the person is already a moderator, click Promote from moderator to owner.
  5. If the person isn’t a moderator, click Promote from member to moderator. Then, click More Moreand thenPromote from moderator to owner.

Remove your ownership of a community

  1. Open Google+.

  2. In the community, click More Moreand thenManage members.
  3. Next to your name, click More More and choose an option.
  4. To make yourself a moderator, click Step down from owner to moderator.
  5. To make yourself a member, click Step down from owner to member.
  6. To remove yourself from the community, click More Moreand thenLeave community.
