With Chat, you can share useful ideas and brainstorm with co-workers in team and project rooms. Need to meet face-to-face? Just start a Google Meet video meeting right in your chat conversation.

3.1 Start a video meeting

When you’re collaborating with your team, sometimes it’s better to meet face-to-face. Start an impromptu video meeting with your team members.

  1. In a chat message, click Add video meeting Start video calland thenSend .
  2. To join the video meeting, click Join video meetingand thenJoin now.

3.2 Add files to conversations

Add documents, presentations, images, and more in your conversations. Files you attach in a conversation are automatically shared with all participants who have Comment access.

  1. In Google Chat, go to the message or conversation and choose an option:
    • To attach a file from your computer, click Upload Upload.
      The file is not added to Drive. Other users get the file directly in the message.
    • To attach a Drive file, click Google Drive .
      When you send the file, you'll be warned if the room or someone in a direct message doesn't have access. If you can edit the file, you'll see an option to grant View, Comment, or Edit access to everyone in the chat. If you grant access to everyone in a room, it also applies to people who join the room later.
  2. Select the file you want to send.
  3. Click Send .

3.3 Search in Chat

Need to search for a specific word or project? With Chat, you can search in direct messages or rooms for @mentions and look for content, such as videos, documents, presentations, and more.

  1. At the top, click Search .
  2. On the left, select a room, or click All rooms and direct messages.
  3. To enter search text, type in the search box.
  4. To narrow your search, click people and content types (such as images or videos).
