Set up your Android 5.0+ device

To use your Android 5.0 Lollipop and later devices at work, you need to do is add a work profile to your account.

Before you begin

Set up a work profile for your account

If your company uses a third-party EMM provider, ask your administrator how to set up your device.

You can't access work information on your device without a work profile. If Google is your EMM provider, choose an option below to set up your device.

I already have a work account on my device

  1. Open the Google Apps Device Policy Google Apps Device Policy. If you’re already using your work account on your device, then Device Policy is already installed.
  2. When asked to set up a work profile, tap Next or Set up.
  3. To start setting up your work profile, tap Set Up.
  4. To allow your administrator to monitor and manage your work profile, tap OK.
  5. Tap Add account and enter your G Suite username and your password.

If your administrator needs to approve your device, you’ll see a note that your device is pending approval. You’ll receive a notification on your device when your administrator approves it.

I need to add my work account to a device

  1. Install and set up the Google Device Policy app.
  2. Make sure that you have the latest version of the app installed on your device. Tap managed Google Play store managed Google Play store, search for the Google Apps Device Policy app, and click Update (if available).
  3. Open the Google Apps Device Policy Google Apps Device Policyapp. If the Status screen doesn't open, tap Menu Menu and thenStatus.
  4. When asked to set up a work profile, tap Next or Create.
  5. If your device isn't encrypted, you'll be asked to encrypt it. Tap OK and follow these steps:
    Note: You must start encryption with a charged battery and keep your device plugged in throughout the encryption process.
    1. To encrypt your accounts, settings, apps, media, and other files, tap Encrypt Phone or Encrypt Tablet
    2. If prompted, enter your Device Policy PIN or password.
    3. To confirm encryption, tap Encrypt Phone or Encrypt Tablet.
    4. Repeat steps 3 and 4.
    5. If prompted, tap OK to confirm that you want to move your account to the secure work profile.
  6. Tap Set Up.
  7. To allow your administrator to monitor and manage your work profile, tap OK.
  8. Tap Authenticate.
  9. When prompted, enter your G Suite password and tap Next.


If your administrator needs to approve your device, you’ll see a note that your device is pending approval. You’ll receive a notification on your device when your administrator approves it.
