AI usage limits reset on a daily or monthly cadence, depending on the feature. Your usage limits can't be shared with other people, and they don't roll over to the next month.

How can I increase my usage limits?

Ask your Workspace administrator to purchase an AI add-on that increases your limits:

  • Most Workspace accounts—Access varies and depends on how your administrator set up your account.
  • AI Expanded Access add-on—Gives you higher access to AI features.
  • AI Ultra Access add-on—Gives you the highest access to AI features.

How limits work with a school account

Note: this information applies only to people who are using a Google Workspace account provided by a school,  college, or university. 

Your use of Gemini might be subject to a monthly usage limit. This limit is based on how your account was set up by your administrator.

If your account is subject to limits, you can use Gemini app and features in Gemini for Google Workspace 1,000 times per month. This usage limit can't be shared with other people, and it doesn't roll over to the next month. 

Your usage limit resets on the first day of each month.

How does my use of Gemini affect my monthly limit?

There are 3 types of actions that count against your usage limits:

  • You submit a prompt in the Gemini app.
  • You ask Gemini for Google Workspace to do work for you. This happens when you use features like "Help me write" or "Help me visualize" to create or re-draft content in Google Workspace apps. 
  • You accept a suggestion from Gemini for Google Workspace. When Gemini detects an opportunity to help you get work done, it makes suggestions that you can choose to accept or ignore. Suggestions that you ignore don't affect your usage limit. When you accept a suggestion, such as enhanced Smart Fill suggestions in Sheets, it counts towards your usage limit. 

What happens when I reach my monthly limit in Gemini for Google Workspace?

You are warned when you approach your limit. After you reach the limit, Gemini for Google Workspace:

  • stops accepting your prompts
  • stops making proactive suggestions
Let your administrator know that you've exceeded your monthly usage limit.

How limits work with Google AI Pro

Your use of Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet is subject to a monthly usage limit. You can use these features 500 times per month. This usage limit can't be shared with other people, and it doesn't roll over to the next month. 

Your usage limit resets on the first day of each month.

How does my use of Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet affect my monthly limit?

There are 2 types of actions that count against your usage limits:

  • You ask Gemini to do work for you. This happens when you use features like "Help me write" or "Help me visualize" to create or re-draft content in Google Workspace apps. 
  • You accept a suggestion from Gemini. When Gemini detects an opportunity to help you get work done, it makes suggestions that you can choose to accept or ignore. Suggestions that you ignore don't affect your usage limit. When you accept Gemini's suggestion, it counts towards your usage limit. 

What happens when I reach my monthly limit in Gemini?

You are warned when you approach your limit. After you reach the limit, Gemini:

  • stops accepting your prompts
  • stops making proactive suggestions

When your monthly limit is refreshed at the beginning of the month, you can start using Gemini in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet again.
