Use Gmail features with Google Sync

You can use Google Sync to synchronize emails to an email app on your mobile device (Apple® iOS®, Microsoft® Windows Phone®,  and BlackBerry®). What you do in the email app is synchronized back to Gmail on the web as well. 

App action on mobile device  Result in Gmail
Open a message Marks the message as read
Move message to Starred Applies a star to the message
Move a message to a folder Applies a label (the folder name) to the message
Move a message to Spam Reports the message as spam
Move a message to Trash Archives the message
If Delete Email As Trash is on, the message is moved to Trash.
Send a message Stores the message in Sent Mail
Delete a message in inbox Archives the message
If Delete Email As Trash is on, the message is moved to Trash.
Delete a message from a folder Removes the folder’s label from the message
Delete a message from All Mail Moves the message to Trash
Delete a message from Spam or Trash Deletes the message permanently

App sync limitations

  • You can search for messages on iOS devices, but not on other devices.
  • You can’t edit email drafts with Google Sync on any device.
  • You can archive mail on any device, except with iOS Mail.
