Customize Gmail and calendar settings on iOS

This article is for G Suite users of managed Apple® iOS® devices. Other users should go to Gmail and Calendar

You can customize certain Gmail and calendar settings on your Apple® iOS® device.

Send email from a different email address or alias

If you have multiple email addresses, you can use Gmail to send emails from each address. You sign in to Gmail to send the emails, but the emails look like they come from your other addresses.

Step 1: Add an address

  1. On your computer (not mobile device), open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settingsand then Settings.
  3. At the top, click the Accounts and Import or Accounts tab.
  4. In the Send mail as section, click Add another email address.
  5. Enter your name and the address you want to send from.
  6. (Optional) To only send email on behalf of the address from Gmail, uncheck the Treat as an alias box. For details, see Should I uncheck "Treat as an alias" in Gmail?
  7. (Optional) To change the email address replies are sent to, click Specify a different "reply-to" address and enter the email address.
  8. Click Next Step.
  9. Enter the SMTP server (for example, smtp.gmail.com or smtp.yourschool.edu) and the username and password for that account.
  10. Click Add Account.

Step 2: Confirm the address

  1. Sign in to the email account that you added in step 1.
  2. Open the confirmation email from Gmail.
  3. Click the link in the email to confirm that you own the email address.

If you can't find the confirmation email, check Spam or Bulk Mail for a message from send-as-noreply@google.com. If you're adding a work or school account, ask your administrator if your domain alias and email alias are configured.

Step 3: Send an email from the address

Use the Gmail app

  1. In the message, click the From field.
(If you don't see this, click the space next to the recipient's email.)
  2. Select the address to send from.

For more information, see Send mail from a different address or alias.

Use the iOS Mail app

  1. On your iOS device, go to Google Sync settings.
  2. Select your device and check the Enable "Send Mail As" for this device box.
  3. Open the iOS Mail app and compose a new email message.
  4. Tap the From field.
  5. Select the address to send from.

Send deleted emails to Trash

When you delete G Suite email messages using the iOS Mail app, Gmail archives the email instead of deleting it. If you’d prefer to send the email to Trash in G Suite, follow these steps:

  1. On your iOS device, go to Google Sync settings.
  2. Check the Enable "Delete Email As Trash" for this device box.

If you delete a message by mistake, you can find it by signing in to Gmail (browser or app) and going to Trash. Emails in Trash are permanently deleted after 30 days.

Sync G Suite calendars to your device

You can sync up to 25 calendars with the iOS Calendar app on your device.

  1. Open the Chrome or Safari browser on your device and go to https://m.google.com/sync/settings/.
  2. Sign in with your account and select your device from the list of devices.
  3. Select the calendars you want to sync, and tap Save.
  4. Bookmark this page so you can return to it easily.
