Get G Suite mail, calendar, and contacts on iOS

If your administrator has set up Google Sync, instead read Get G Suite on iOS with Google Sync.

You can get G Suite on your iOS® device. You’ll see the same emails, events, and contacts whether on your phone, tablet, or computer.

By signing in to a G Suite service on your mobile device, you register the device for mobile management with your organization.

Before you begin

Decide how to get apps on your device. You have 2 options:

  • Use G Suite, which is the recommended choice.
  • Use the iOS apps that came with your device.

Not sure which option to choose? Talk to your administrator.

You’ll need the following items:

  • A personal or company-issued mobile phone or tablet.
  • Your G Suite account. (See your admin if you don’t have an account.)
  • A mobile app that supports management, such as Gmail or Google Calendar, on your device.

Option 1: Use G Suite (recommended)

Complete the following steps, letting your mobile device lead you through the process.

Sign in to your account
  1. Open an app such as Gmail, and sign in to your G Suite account.
    A message appears, asking permission to send you notifications, such as alerts, sounds, and icon badges.
  2. Tap Allow.

Follow the prompts and let your device guide you through the next steps.

Install the Google Device Policy app

If your device prompts you to install the Google Device Policy app, follow the set of steps that applies to you.

If you see a Device Policy Alert message, tap Next and complete the following steps:

  1. Tap Allow to see the set-up file.
  2. Tap Install to install the Google Apps Device Policy app.
  3. If prompted, enter your passcode and tap Install.
  4. Each time you’re prompted, tap Install to continue.
  5. Tap Trust to accept Remote Management.
  6. When the profile is installed, tap Done.
  7. (Optional) If prompted, tap Settings and enter your G Suite password to save it.
    You may need to tap Re-enter Password.

If you see a prompt to get the latest version of the Google Device Policy app:

  1. Make sure Safari is enabled:
     
    1. Tap Settings  and then General and then Restrictions.
    2. Enter your passcode.
    3. Scroll through the list of apps on your iPhone to find Safari, and if it is off, tap On On.
  2. On your iOS device, open the App Store® and search for Google Device Policy.
  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Google Device Policy app.
  2. Tap Allow to let Google Device Policy send you notifications such as alerts, sounds, and icon badges.
  3. Tap your G Suite account again and accept the Terms of Service.
Set up Device Policy profile

If you see a prompt to install the Google Apps Device Policy profile:

  1. Tap Download Download to install the Google Apps Device Policy profile.
  2. Tap Allow to see the set-up file.
  3. Tap Install.
  4. If prompted, enter your passcode and tap Install.
  5. Each time you’re prompted, tap Install to continue.
  6. Tap Trust to accept Remote Management.
  7. When the Google Apps Device Policy profile is installed, tap Done. 
    If your admin needs to approve your device, you’ll receive an email. Wait until your admin approves your device.
  8. If prompted, tap Settings and enter your G Suite password.
  9. If needed, tap Re-enter password.
  10. Enter your G Suite password.

If your device is approved, you’ll see the list of services and their settings available for you to sync.

Synchronize services

Follow these steps to sync services to your iOS apps:

  1. Review the list of services you can sync.  To see the services and their settings:
    ​
    1. Tap Settings and then Accounts & Passwords.
    2. Select your G Suite account.
  2. Make sure these settings apply to the following services:
  • Mail and Calendar are off. If needed, tap Off Off.
  • Contacts is on. If not, tap On On.

Option 2: Use the iOS apps on your device

If your admin allows it, you can sync your G Suite mail, calendars, and contacts with the corresponding apps on your iOS device. You can get your G Suite Gmail, see your Google Calendar events, and view Google Contacts in your corresponding iOS apps.

Install the Device Policy App
  1. Make sure Safari is enabled:
     
    1. Tap Settings  and then General  and then Restrictions.
    2. Enter your passcode.

    4. On your iOS device, open the App Store® and search for Google Device Policy.

  4. Tap your G Suite account again and accept the Terms of Service.

If you see a prompt to set up the Google Apps Device Policy profile, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Download  Download to install the Google Apps Device Policy profile.
  2. Tap Allow to see the set-up file.
  3. Tap Install.
  4. If prompted, enter your passcode and tap Install.
  5. Each time you’re prompted, tap Install to continue.
  6. Tap Trust to accept Remote Management.
  7. When the profile is installed, tap Done.
    If your admin needs to approve your device, you’ll receive an email. Wait until your admin approves your device.
  8. If prompted, tap Settings and enter your G Suite password.
  9. If needed, tap Re-enter password.
  10. Enter your G Suite password.
