Change your browser's background and color

You can choose a background image and color that appears when you open a new tab.

Add a background image

  1. At the bottom right of a New Tab page, click Customize Chrome .
  2. Under “Appearance,” select Change theme.
  3. You can:
    • Select a theme from the gallery.
    • Select Upload an image.

Chrome automatically suggests a browser color based on the image you upload or the theme you select. If you don’t like the suggested color, under “Appearance,” pick a different color.

To reset the theme, at the bottom of the panel, select Reset to Default Chrome.

Tip: To change your background daily, click on a collection and turn on Refresh daily.

Change your browser's color

  1. At the bottom right of a New Tab page, click Customize Chrome .
  2. Under “Appearance,” select from the available options.
    • When you select a theme, Chrome suggests colors that pair together.

Group, pin, & move tabs

Need a way to group your tabs together to make them easily accessible and visible? In Chrome browser, you can create a tab group or add to an existing tab group. You can also arrange your tabs or pin the ones you visit most frequently.

Group your tabs

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Select New tab New tab.
  3. Right-click a tab.
  4. Select Add tab to group and then New group or an existing group.
    • To edit your tab group: Right-click the colored circle or name to the left. You can:
      • Name your group.
      • Select the tab group color.
      • Add more tabs to the group.
      • Remove the group.
    • To add a tab to an existing group: Drag the tab into the group.
    • To remove a tab from a group: Right-click the tab, then select Remove from group.
    • To close a tab group in the tab strip:
      1. Right-click a tab group.
      2. Select Close group.
        • A closed group isn't deleted and is saved in the bookmarks bar or in the menu. You can open a closed group again.
    • To open a tab group:
      • From the bookmarks bar: Select Grid Grid view and then [Tab group name].
      • From the menu:
        1. Select More More and then Tab groups.
        2. Select a tab group.
Tips:
  • To find tab groups in the bookmarks bar, in Settings, under “Appearance,” turn on Show tab groups in bookmarks bar.
  • To automatically pin new tab groups to the bookmarks bar, in Settings, under “Appearance,” turn on Automatically pin new tab groups to the bookmarks bar.
    • This will also pin new tab groups created from your other devices using the same Google Account.

Pin or move tabs

Pin a tab: Right-click the tab and select Pin. Pinned tabs are smaller and only show the site's icon.

Unpin a tab: Right-click the tab and select Unpin.

Move a tab to a different window:

  1. Make sure both windows are signed in to the same profile.
  2. Right-click the tab you want to move.
  3. Scroll to "Move tab to another window."
  4. Select the window you want to move the tab to.

Add shortcuts to favorite pages on new tabs

Chrome browser can automatically add shortcuts on your New Tab page, to websites you visit frequently. You can also add your own shortcuts. That way, whenever you open a new tab, you can easily click any shortcut to go to that page. You can also choose to hide shortcuts.

Add a shortcut on your New Tab page

  1. Open Chrome Chrome.
  2. On a new tab page, under the search box, click Add shortcut.
  3. Enter the shortcut name and URL.
  4. Click Done.

Show either your shortcuts or your most visited websites

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. At the bottom right of a New Tab page, click Customize Chrome .
  3. Under “Shortcuts,” select My shortcuts or Most visited sites.
  4. To hide shortcuts, turn off Show shortcuts.

Remove or change a shortcut

  1. Point to its icon. 
  2. At the top right of the icon, click More More.
  3. Select either Edit shortcut or Remove.

Add desktop shortcuts to favorite pages

You can also add shortcuts to favorite web pages, on your computer's desktop. Clicking the shortcut starts Chrome, if it's not already running, and goes straight to the page.

  1. Open Chrome browser, and go to the website you want to create the shortcut for.
  2. At the top right, click More and thenSave and Shareand thenCreate Shortcut.
  3. Enter a name for the shortcut.
  4. (Optional) If you want the web page to open as a separate window, check the Open as window box.
  5. Click Create.

 

 

Bookmark Gmail & Calendar

  1. In Chrome Browser, go to the site you want to visit again in the future. For example:
    • mail.google.com for Gmail
    • calendar.google.com for Google Calendar
  2. To the right of the address bar, click Star and thenAdd Bookmark .
  3. Choose an option:
    • To exit, click Close .
    • To rename your bookmark or access it from a different folder, choose an option and click Done.

 

 

Reopen a closed tab

If you accidentally closed a tab, you can reopen it by pressing the following keys:

  • Windows, ChromeOS, & Linux: Ctrl + Shift + T
  • Mac: Command + Shift + T
