I recently began having issues while accessing files through Google Drive File Steam, specifically, my computer will freeze and require a hard shutdown/restart when accessing pictures, word files, and PDFs. The problem is worse if I have multiple files open through Drive FS.

Since this is a recent issue, I thought that my first shot at a solution would be to clear the Drive FS cache.  Through some searching, I believe I found the location where the cache is saved; however, I get an error message when I try to delete the whole folder . (Here's the folder link: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\DriveFS)

Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated.  Anything else that I should try?

When I try to delete the "Drive FS" folder, I always get the following error: 

"The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again" 

Do I need to uninstall File Stream before deleting the cache, or can I do something else to allow me to delete this file?

Dr Gareth Loy's response worked for me. The link has the steps to delete the cache.

The reason I had deleted the cache was as follows:
My Total Google Account size was 25 GB, however the cache was almost 90 GB and thats what I wanted to free up.
I deleted the cache and got the space freed up. I changed the Folder Path to the DriveFS cache and now re-initiated the Drive FS.

However I've landed up in further hassle. Apparently the DriveFS once re-initialised, starts to sync all the data again. It doesn't allow me to browse through any folders, throws me out of the folder by posting an error that the location is not found. It seems to be syncing all the files back (not just the folders). So I have to literally wait for all the data to be cached back and be up-to-date which can take a lot of time and internet data. Phew!!

So I did wait, everything was synced as per the Drive Icon. Yet I'm unable to access the folders. I restarted the machine and did all the standard procedures to see if its just hung up on something to complete. 

But alas, I'm unable to get into the folders using the Drive FS on my machine. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar issue dealing with some large files. 

I have a 500GB drive that almost completely ran out of space because the FS Content Cache jumped to 277.9 GB even though i'm only storing 141.8 GBs on Drive.

Why is the content cache doing this and how do I resolve the issue without running the risk of deleting important files?

First, disconnect your account. Then, connect again. Cache will be erased.

I Have the same issue when i disconnect the account and re-connect the same folder that was thier re-appears
