Google Drive File Stream starts up and continually crashes on Mac High Sierra 0 Recommended Answers 17 Replies 52 Upvotes

I'm trying to use Google Drive File Stream on a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) running High Sierra version 10.13.6.

I installed File Stream and had a little trouble clicking the allow button (it took several tries) in the security settings, but was up and running after a little bit.

Now whenever File Stream starts, I see the little icon appear and it just seems to disappear, it crashes right away. Opening up the application will do this—I double click, see the little icon appear at the top of my screen and it flashes a few times then disappears. I can't see the drive anywhere or any of my files which had previously synced.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application several times (including clearing the cache) but nothing changes.

Any ideas?

Having exactly the same problem but with Mojave 10.14.4…
sucks as we work with GSuite…

Any ideas anyone?
it did check network settings, firewall and anti-virus software… none was the problem.

Yep likewise. on Mojave. It was literally working fine now today it has signed me out, removed all of my files and won't let me sign back in.

I then proceeded to uninstall it, clear the cache then reinstall. Still no avail. I tired to then restart my Mac and it crashed on a black screen with a white spinning wheel. Sigh.

Now when I hover over the file stream icon in the top bar, I get the spinning wheel of death.

Not sure if this will help anybody. But stoping File Stream opening at launch and then opening it manually seemed to have solved my problem (for now) all of my files are back and things seem to be working fine.

For those that don't know, to stop an app opening at launch, go to system preferences, users & groups, login items and then remove File Stream. Then I restarted my Mac.

I don't know if it'll fix anyone else's problems but I thought I'd share just in case. Hopefully Google can sort this out!

Having this issue as well. I stopped the app from launching at login. Hopefully they fix this soon!

Same issue here - Google Drive Sync is unstable on Mojave - Dropbox has no issues with many more files to index.

Mine just freezes after I press "sign in" every single time. Also tried clearing the cache, and it at least gets me to a sign-in window, but again freezes after that. Also tried to uninstall and reinstall the app and restart my computer- nothing worked.

I'm on an early 2015 Macbook Air running Mojave 10.14.5.
