Setting up registration for Google Meet

Hi,
Our organization just moved from using zoom to Google meet for our webinars, but I can’t seem to find an easy way to get people to register ahead for the event. This is a problem because you can’t invite someone to a Google meet without their email, and just sharing the meeting link means risking that no one shows up.

I’ve tried using Google forms, but I want to check if anyone knows of an easier way to get this done

Hi Thomas,

As noted in my earlier discussion with Ganiyat, there's no way to re-create the Zoom registration experience with Google Meet. You won't know who has decided to join that meeting or not unless you invite them through a calendar invite.

Having said that, Google has just rolled out a new way to share calendar invites - you no longer need a person's email address.

So, you can set up a calendar event, with a Google Meet video call attached, and then share that link anywhere you like and people can RSVP to the event. They'll be able to add the event to their calendar, and you'll see who has registered for the event.

Details on how to share an event with just a link are here: https://support.google.com/calendar/answer/13839531

hi Ganiyat Lawal

Forms are a pretty easy option to set up but out of curiosity how did you run this when you were using zoom? Can you not use the same setup?

Hi Ganiyat Lawal,

You can also use the Calendar feature called Appointment Schedule.

Do note that it works best when there are only very few attendees, as only one person can select the time, though they in turn can add more attendees. So for small groups, who all know each other, it works.

For large events you need to use a Google Form, where you just post the link to the form where ever you want, and people will sign up, and give you their email address, which you then use to invite them to the actual Meet.

Of course, you can also add the link to the Meet on the Form, but then they may not actually complete the Form, again leaving you unaware of how many may show up on the day

  • To share an event, you must sign in to Calendar with a personal Google Account.
So, sadly, it seems this entire feature isn't available for Workspace accounts.
I just tested it to verify, and I can't use it with my Workspace account.

So it's not a solution to your problem.
