Using SMTP after February 15, 2021 0 Recommended Answers 4 Replies 21 Upvotes

The recent announcement stating that LSA will be disabled https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2019/12/less-secure-apps-oauth-google-username-password-incorrect.html states the following:

Scanners and other devices - No change is required for scanners or other devices using simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) or LSAs to send emails.

Does this mean that certain devices will still be able to use SMTP (while others won't)?

Because afaik it's not possible to send emails via SMTP with LSA turned off from a regular computer or server.

How is this passage to be interpreted?

Moving you to G Suite help Forum.  Best place for your question.  They may need your domain name, and will ask if necessary.

Follow this existing thread for the current issue; no need to post a new thread.

Please use https://support.google.com/a/thread/new?hl=en if, in future, another G Suite (or Google Groups) problem arises.  Not for this current issue!

We're asking exactly for general guidance  as to what this statement means in practicality, since it seems to contradict the whole point of the announcement that LSA is going away.

STATEMENT
No change is required for scanners or other devices using simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) or LSAs to send emails.

QUESTION
If LSA is going away, how can a scanner still use it?

The statement in the blog post is general information, and the clarifying question about it is a general question.  This question is not specific to any single device or account.

I am going to have to agree with Nate here.  I am in the same boat with a large number of scanners.  I think we just want to know if SMTP is still going to work with only a user name and password.
