Why can't I sort contacts by company? GSuite is supposed to be for businesses I was told.

I can only sort contacts by first or last name.  This does not help when composing emails.  I can't remember names of everyone on my list.  I use Gmail (through Gsuite) for business purposes.  My former webmail allowed me to type in a business and all my contacts with that business name in their profile came up.

Moving you to G Suite help Forum.  Best place for your question.  They may need your domain name, and will ask if necessary.
 
Follow this existing thread for the current issue; no need to post a new thread.
 
Please use https://support.google.com/a/thread/new?hl=en if, in future, another G Suite (or Google Groups) problem arises.  Not for this current issue!
 
(Are you aware of 24/7/365  personal support available, as part of your G Suite plan,  to the domain administrator of qualified G Suite accounts, if needed? - see admin.google.com -> Support  )
