Configure settings for your investigations

From the security investigation tool, use the Investigation settings window to configure certain settings for your investigations.

Only Super Admins can modify these settings, which apply to all administrators in your organization. Using these settings, you can do the following:

  • Turn on the Require reviewer setting to require reviewers for actions on large data sets—where over 300 items are affected.
  • Allow admins with the appropriate privileges to view email content.
  • Require admins to enter justification text before they can view email content.
  • Allow admins with the appropriate privileges to enter justification text before performing actions in the investigation tool.

Turn on the 'Require reviewer' setting

Require reviewers for bulk actions in the investigation tool:

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console at admin.google.com with your super admin account.
    Be sure to sign in using your super admin account, and not your personal Gmail account.
  2. Click Security.
  3. Click Investigation tool.
  4. From the Investigation page, click the gear icon on the right side of the screen.
    The Investigation settings window is displayed.
  5. Turn on the Require reviewer setting.
  6. Click APPLY.

Turn on the 'View email content' setting

Allow admins with the appropriate privilege to view email content:

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console at admin.google.com with your super admin account.
    Be sure to sign in using your super admin account, and not your personal Gmail account.
  2. Click Security.
  3. Click Investigation tool.
  4. From the Investigation page, click the gear icon on the right side of the screen.
    The Investigation settings window is displayed.
  5. Turn on the View email content setting.
  6. (Optional) Turn on the toggle button to require admins to enter justification text before viewing email content. 
  7. Click APPLY.

Turn on the 'Enable action justification' setting

Allow admins with the appropriate privileges to enter justification text before performing actions in the investigation tool:

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console at admin.google.com with your super admin account.
    Be sure to sign in using your super admin account, and not your personal Gmail account.
  2. Click Security.
  3. Click Investigation tool.
  4. From the Investigation page, click the gear icon on the right side of the screen.
    The Investigation settings window is displayed.
  5. Turn on the Enable action justification setting.
  6. Click APPLY.
