Set up a static IP on Meet hardware

For administrators or IT personnel who manage Chrome devices for a business or enterprise.

Google Meet hardware works with wired and wireless networks. Many organizations don't use DHCP or Wi-Fi, which might not have the same quality as Ethernet or might not be available. If your network doesn’t use DHCP or Wi-Fi and the device is connected through Ethernet, set up static IP addresses on Meet hardware. How you do this depends on whether you already enrolled the device or you’re using it for the first time.

Before you begin

See the Google Meet hardware network requirements.

Complete setup during enrollment

If you’re setting up Meet hardware for the first time, the device is connected through Ethernet, and your network doesn’t have a DHCP server, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your device.
  2. Attach a keyboard to the device.
  3. Wait for the setup screen to appear but don’t proceed through the prompts.
  4. Click Next.
  5. At the bottom-right corner, click on the time.
  6. In the pop-up, click Wi-Fi and thenEthernet.
  7. In the Ethernet configuration pop-up, turn Configure IP address automatically Off .
  8. Depending on how your network was originally set up, fill in the following fields:
    • IP address
    • Routing prefix
    • Gateway
  9. Scroll down and and select Google Name servers.
  10. Restart the device.

Complete setup outside enrollment

If you enrolled using Wi-Fi or hotspot, follow these instructions to set up a static IP address for Meet hardware:

  1. Turn on your device.
  2. Attach a keyboard to the device.
  3. Press Ctrl+Alt+S to exit kiosk mode.
You’ll be prompted to sign in.
  4. At the bottom-right corner, click on the timeand thenclick Wi-Fi .
If the device’s Ethernet port is already connected to a switch, Ethernet is the top entry.
  5. Click Ethernet.
  6. In the Ethernet configuration pop-up, turn Configure IP address automatically Off .
  7. Depending on how your network was originally set up, fill in the following fields:
    • IP address
    • Routing prefix
    • Gateway
  8. Scroll down and select Google Name servers.
  9. Close the window.
  10. Restart the device in kiosk mode.

Setting up static IPs as a guest or user

When you sign in as a guest or user on a Meet hardware device and set up a static IP address in a user session:

  • If no one set up any other static IP addresses on the device, Meet will use the one you set up in the user session.
  • If someone already set up a static IP address using one of the methods described above, Meet will use that one and ignore the one you set up in the user session.
