Sign in to Windows after GCPW installation

After you or your administrator installs Google Credential Provider for Windows (GCPW) on your Windows 10 or 11 device, you can sign into your Microsoft Windows device with your managed Google Account.

Before you begin

• The device must have Chrome Browser 81 or later.
• For initial sign-in using GCPW, you must have an internet connection.
• For AD-joined computers, if you don't have an AD-backed Windows profile on the computer already, you must be connected to AD for your first sign-in.

Initial sign-in after GCPW installation

Your initial sign-in experience depends on whether your admin associated your Google Account with an existing Windows profile.

After the initial sign-in, you can sign in to your device as you normally do.

Sign in to Windows when you already have a Windows profile

1. Choose an option:
   • If you have a Windows profile in Active Directory, click your existing account.
   • If you have a local profile and the Add Work Account option is available, click Add Work Account. Otherwise, click your existing Windows account.
2. Enter your Google Account username and password.
3. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions for 2-Step Verification.
4. In the consent dialog box, click I agree.
   Or, if you don’t want to continue, press the Esc key.

You’re signed in to the device, and you can access Google and single sign-on (SSO) applications without entering your Google credentials again.

Sign in to Windows when you don’t have a Windows profile

1. Click Add Work Account.

   The Google sign-in dialog appears.

2. Enter your Google Account username and password.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions for 2-Step Verification.
4. In the consent dialog box, click I agree.
   Or, if you don’t want to continue, press the Esc key.

A new Windows profile is created. You’ll use your Google Account credentials to sign in from now on.

Subsequent sign-ins with your Google credentials

After you sign in to your device using your Google credentials, you can sign in to your Windows account normally by clicking your Windows profile on the Windows login screen.

1. On the bottom left of the screen, click your account name.
2. Enter your password into the Windows login screen.
3. Click Submit.

Once you’re signed in, you can access Google and other single sign-on applications associated with your work or school accounts without the need to re-enter your Google credentials.

Note: If you lose internet connectivity, you can still sign in to your Windows profile by following the preceding steps.

Subsequent sign-ins with your Google credentials after a security event

For additional security, you’ll need to sign in to your device using the Google sign-in screen if one of the following security events occur:

• Your session expires.
• Suspicious activity is detected on your account.
• The Google password is changed by you or an admin.

If any of these events occur, signing in through the Google dialog provides an extra layer of security.

1. On the bottom left of the screen, click your account name.
2. In the Google sign-in dialog, enter your credentials.
3. Click Submit.
