As an administrator, you might want to see how things are progressing as data moves from one region to another. For example, you may want to know how long it takes to move your data, what percentage of your accounts have been moved, and how that percentage is calculated.

- There are two versions of the data regions feature: Enterprise data regions and Fundamental data regions. To view move progress, you need Enterprise data regions, which is included with Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Education Standard.

How long does a move take?
How is the completion percentage calculated?
Move progress is calculated based on a combination of service, user, and region.
For a service within a selected region, a user account is moved to the new region when all of that user’s covered data is stored at rest in the new region.
For example, if there are 10 Gmail users being moved to the European region and six of those users’ accounts have completed the move, the Gmail move completion percentage is 60%.
Within a specific region, a user’s covered data is moved to the new region when all of that user’s covered data is stored in the new region.
The completion percentage measures the transfer of user data from one region to another. New users are included in the calculation after their creation is reported as finished.
Why does the move take longer for some services?
For example, the amount of user data for Google Calendar is usually significantly less than the Drive data for the same user. So, the covered Calendar data will probably finish moving before the covered Drive data.
How often is the dashboard updated?
Why did the completion percentage go down?
- An admin changed the data regions policy for an organizational unit.
- An admin reassigned the user to another organizational unit.
- A user or admin changed the ownership of the data object—for example, the ownership of a Drive file is changed to a different user.
- For shared objects, a user or admin changes the members with whom the object is shared.
For example, if a user moves from an organizational unit based in Europe to one based in the United States, a data regions policy has changed. This change triggers a data move for the user’s covered data from Europe to the United States, which lowers the completion percentage.
How do I interpret move progress?
Primary data
When you select a data region, Google Workspace starts moving data for selected users to the newly selected region. Move percentage is calculated on a per account basis. Once all data for select products is moved to the correct region for an account, the overall percentage increases. For example, if there are 10 users and a move for one user is complete, the move percentage is 10%.
Backups
When you select a data region, Google Workspace starts creating backups in that region after your primary data move is complete. Existing backups aren’t moved to your selected region—they are left to expire.
Indices
When you select a data region, Google Workspace starts creating indices in that region after your primary data move is complete. Indices in existing regions are no longer updated and are left to expire.
What if I'm unable to view move progress?
If you're unable to view move progress, it's because you have a Fundamental data regions subscription. To view move progress, you need Enterprise data regions, which is included with a Google Workspace Enterprise Plus subscription.
