Organize Android apps into collections

You can group approved Android apps into collections to organize your organization’s apps. For example, you can create a collection called Essentials for frequently used apps. Or, create a collection called Expenses for apps related to tracking costs, travel, and so on. If you whitelist at least one app in a collection, your users will see the collection when they open the managed Google Play store. Users won’t see apps that aren’t whitelisted. You can create up to 30 collections.

Before you begin

Before you can create and manage collections, you need to whitelist any Android apps you want to use. You can only add approved apps to collections. For details on whitelisting apps, see Manage apps on Android devices.

Open the Organize apps page

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Device management.

    To see Device management, you might have to click More controls at the bottom.

  3. On the left, click App Management and then Manage apps for Android devices.
  4. Click Manage Whitelisted Apps.
  5. At the bottom, click Add Add.
  6. On the left, click Organize apps .

Create a collection

  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. Click Create a collection.
  3. Name the collection and click Next.
  4. Select up to 100 apps to add to the collection and click Add apps. You can use the search bar to find specific apps.
  5. At the bottom, click Save.

Edit a collection

Important: Click Discard changes at the bottom to cancel any edits. If you edit a collection and save the changes, your changes cannot be undone.

Open all   |   Close all

Add apps to a collection

Note: A collection can include a maximum of 100 apps.

  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. On the left of the collection you want to edit, click Add Add .
  3. Select the apps that you want to add and click Add apps. You can use the search bar to find specific apps.
  4. At the bottom, click Save.
Reorder apps in a collection
  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. Open the collection you want to edit and next to each app, click the Left arrow Left arrow and Right arrow Right arrow to arrange the apps in your preferred order.
  3. At the bottom, click Save.
Remove apps from a collection
  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. Open the collection you want to edit and the at top of each app that you want to remove, click Remove Remove.
  3. At the bottom, click Save.
Rename a collection
  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. In the collection you want to rename, click Edit Edit.
  3. Enter a new name for the collection and click OK.
  4. At the bottom, click Save.
Reorder collections
  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. On the right of each collection you want to reorder,  click the Up arrow Up arrow and Down arrow Down Arrow to arrange them in your preferred order.
  3. At the bottom, click Save.

Copy a collection

  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. Click Copy Copy.
  3. Click Create.
  4. (Optional) To edit the collection, follow the steps to Edit a collection.
  5. At the bottom, click Save.

Delete a collection

  1. Follow the steps above to open the Organize apps page.
  2. In the collection that you want to delete, click Delete Delete.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. At the bottom, click Save.
