Get started: Voice setup guide for admins

Migrate users to managed accounts

Before Google Voice for Google Workspace was available, people in the U.S. could use their work or school account to sign up for Google Voice. You can migrate these unmanaged accounts to managed accounts.

Note: After you migrate a person's account, you can't switch it back to an unmanaged account.

Before you begin

Note: Existing Voice data from the unmanaged account will be under the control of your organization. We recommend that you inform users about this change before migrating their account.

After migration

After migration finishes:

  • The Users page lists the migrated accounts.
  • Users get an email letting them know that their Voice number was migrated to a managed account.
  • People can request a refund if they had a credit balance on their account.

Limits on migration

You can't migrate some types of accounts, such as Google Fiber or Google Fi accounts.

You can only migrate an account with multiple numbers by porting out, transferring, or deleting a number.
