Sometimes, messages sent to Google group members might bounce. And when messages bounce, they're simply dropped. They are not sent to the group or returned to the sender.

Step 1: Find members whose messages are bouncing

View the Members list to find members whose messages are bouncing.

Using new Groups
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. On the left, click Members.

A red triangle appears next to the Subscription column entry of members whose messages are bouncing.

Using classic Groups
  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Click the name of a group.
  4. Above the list on the right, click Manage members.

The word Bouncing appears in the Delivery column of members whose messages are bouncing.

Step 2: Stop messages to group members from bouncing

Fix server issues

Messages might bounce if:

  • MX records are unavailable because of DNS issues
  • An email server is temporarily unavailable

To fix server issues, verify your MX records and server status. If the Groups service detects that issues are resolved, members automatically exit the bounce state. Learn more about MX records.

Ask members to update their status

Members whose messages are bouncing can update their bounce status using the following link. Members must replace example.com with the domain of your organization:

https://groups.google.com/a/example.com/groups/bounced?pli=1

Restore disabled or suspended accounts

Messages might bounce if a sender's Google Account is disabled. When this happens, you'll see information like this in the email logs:

Recipient details Bounced
group@domain.com June 28, 2013 10:40:42 AM The account sender@domain.com is disabled

Messages might also bounce if G Suite accounts or Gmail accounts are suspended. Learn more about:
