Squarespace: Verify your domain

Important! Use this article to set up a new domain with Google Workspace. If you've been using Google Workspace with your domain for more than 3 days, your domain is already verified.

Why verify?

We don't want someone else to use your domain to sign up for Google Workspace. You can help us keep your domain safe by showing us that you are the owner.

Step 1: Get your verification code from Google Workspace
  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. Click Continue to verify your domain with a TXT record.

  3. Look for your verification code in the setup tool and click Copy.

Shows the Copy button next to the TXT verification record.

Step 2: Sign in to your domain host
  1. In the Admin Console, on the Verify your domain and set up email page, click the link to open your domain host sign-in page in a new tab.

Note: If the Setup Wizard doesn’t provide a link to your domain, open the Squarespace® site in a new tab. Keep the Admin Console open in the first tab.

  2. Enter the email address and password you created when you purchased your domain from Squarespace.
  3. Click Log In.

If you don’t know your account information, you can recover your account or contact Squarespace support.

Step 3: Add the verification record to your domain's DNS records
  1. At the top of the page, click Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to verify for your Google service.
  3. On the left, click Advanced Settings.

Advanced Settings is found under the Primary Domain.

  4. Open the instructions for the type of verification record you want to add to your domain’s DNS records. Add a TXT verification record (most common)
    1. Under Add Presets, select G Suite Verification.

G Suite Verification is selected at the bottom of the drop-down list.

    2. In the open field, paste the entire verification record that you copied in step 1.

The TXT record field is to the right of the G Suite Verification drop-down option.

    3. Click Add.
    Add a CNAME verification record
    1. Scroll down to Custom Records.
    2. Click the Down arrow "" and select CNAME.

CNAME is selected from the drop-down list.

    3. In the Host (www) field, enter the contents of the Setup Wizard’s Label / Host field from step 1.
    4. In the Data (Enter alias data) field, enter the contents of the Setup Wizard’s Destination / Target field from step 1.

The G Suite CNAME verification record is entered in the Host and Data fields.

    5. Click Add.
Step 4: Tell Google Workspace to check your verification code
  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. Click Continue.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the next page and click Verify my domain.

Important! It might take additional time for your registrar to publish the verification code. If the Google Workspace setup tool gives you an error message, wait an hour before you try again.

In extreme cases, it can take up to 48 hours for your registrar to publish your verification code.
