Add users from Contacts on Android

On your Android device, you can add contacts from Google Contacts as new users of your Google service. You use the Google Admin app to add the contact. Any contact information, such as email, address and phone numbers, is added as well. Even the user’s photo is added.

To complete these steps, you need the appropriate User management privilege. Without this privilege, you won’t see all the controls needed to complete these steps.

To add a new user from your contacts:

  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  3. Tap Menu and thenUsers.
  4. Tap Add and thenImport contact.

If you’re using multiple contact apps, choose the app to import a contact from.

  5. Tap the name of the contact you want to add.

The contact’s name is imported, along with their photo (if available) and any email addresses and phone numbers.

  6. Enter the user's new email address for your Google service.
  7. If your account has multiple domains associated with it, tap the list of domains and select the domain you want to add the user to.
  8. (Optional) Set the user's initial password.

By default, the Google Admin app generates a temporary password for the new user. The password length is greater than the required character minimum (8), or the minimum password length you set for your domain.

    • (Optional) To change the initial password, set Auto generate password to OFF and enter a new password twice.

The password must be at least 8 characters. See Password help for tips on how to create a strong password.

    • (Optional) Require the user to change their password when they next sign in.

By default, this requirement is on.

  9. (Optional) Enter additional details, such as a secondary email address or phone number.
  10. (Optional) To add additional information or add the user to a group, tap Add More Info.

This information is visible in the Google Admin console and Gmail contacts.

  11. Tap Done .

When the new user is added, you see a confirmation message.

  12. Tap Done to close the message box, or tap Share to send details of the new account using Gmail, or Google Drive (if you have Google Workspace), or use another messaging method (if you don't have Google Workspace).

Google sends the new user a welcome email with the account details (domain name, user name, and password). The message includes a link to sign in to their new account.
