Monitor API quotas

API quotas protect Google infrastructure from automated processes that use excessive amounts of API requests. API quotas block traffic when the level of requests reaches the daily API quota level.

Data migration generates many API requests. It's possible that your migration might exceed daily API quota levels when you migrate data to Google Workspace—and this can cause migration delays. To avoid delays, it's important you estimate and monitor your migration traffic carefully. There are two options to monitor API traffic.

Option 1: API-specific quota

  1. Go to Google Cloud and sign in as a Google Workspace super administrator.
  2. Under Project, select the project you're using for the migration.
  3. On the left, click APIs & Servicesand thenDashboard.
  4. Scroll to the bottom and click the API you want to monitor.
    1. The Overview tab shows details of the API.
    2. The Metrics tab shows API traffic over time.
    3. The Quotas tab shows the daily quota you have remaining.

Option 2: All project quotas

  1. Go to Google Cloud and sign in as a Google Workspace super administrator.
  2. Under Project, select the project you're using for the migration.
  3. On the left, click IAM & adminand thenQuotas.
    1. Click the API you want to monitor.
    2. Use the filters at the top of the page to adjust the list by Quota type, Service, Metric, and/or Location.

By default, the list is sorted to show your most used quota first (in terms of peak usage over the last 7 days), helping you see limits that are at risk of being exceeded. You can toggle to show the least used first by selecting the 7 Day Peak Usage arrow.

Increase the quota for an API

Depending on your resource usage, you might want to increase the quota for an API.

  1. Go to Google Cloud and sign in as a Google Workspace super administrator.
  2. Under Project, select the project you're using for the migration.
  3. On the left, click IAM & adminand thenQuotas.
  4. Using the checkboxes, select one or more quotas to edit, then click Edit Quotas.

Billing must be enabled on the project in order to click the checkboxes.

  5. In the Edit Quotas panel on the right, complete the form with your Name, Email, and Phone details, then click Next.
  6. In the Edit Quotas panel, select the service to expand the view, then edit the quotas in that service to your requested limit. Click Done.
  7. Click Submit request.

Applying for an increased quota doesn't guarantee approval. Quota requests are usually processed quickly, within two business days. Large quota increases can take longer to be approved.
